Peter Pan in the Catskills at the Roscoe Library

Peter Pan in the Catskills at the Roscoe Library

We recently hosted Bill Birns at the Roscoe branch of the Livingston Manor-Roscoe Library. Bill is the editor of Peter Pan in the Catskills, the first title from the new Purple Mountain Press. From Rip Van Winkle to FDR, art to ancient forests, and so much in between, this collection explores the history and lore of the Catskill Mountains. The essays initially appeared in the much beloved journal, Catskill Tri-County Historical Views. Here they are given new life and beautifully illustrated with color photos and artwork throughout. It is, in the words of New York State Historian Devin Lander, “a true delight.”

Bill read from his Introduction to the collection and also from one of his own essays on the history of the Lexington Conservatory Theatre.

The best part of the event was, of course, Bill's charming presentation and personal anecdotes collected over years of researching and writing stories of the Catskills. To get a glimpse of Bill's voice, click through to this great interview with him on Upstate Dispatch.
