$145.00

A book of seven hand-printed intaglios by Helen Frankenthaler, enclosed in a paper folio with a cloth-covered box — one of the most physically considered artist's books of the 1990s. Frankenthaler created the color intaglios at Tyler Graphics Ltd. in Mount Kisco, New York, in January 1995. The intaglios were printed from eleven copper and five plastic plates on HMP linen-textured white handmade paper, with embossing by Anthony Kirk, lithography text by Susan Hover, and typography by Lorraine Ferguson set in Adobe Garamond. The folio with intaglio and the lithography text was printed on TCL white handmade paper. The book includes the poem "St. Valentine" by William Carlos Williams, printed in lithography on the inside of the folio cover.

The colophon records an edition of thirty-five, with seven Work Proofs, one TGL Impression, one Archive, one Right to Print proof, two Printers Proofs, and three Trial Proofs. This copy is the trade edition published by Rizzoli New York in 1996, which made the work available in a larger run — printed and bound in Italy by Sfera International, Milan.

Fine condition. Burgundy cloth boards clean and bright; purple inner boards pristine; pages of exceptional quality throughout.
