Maigret and the Nahour Case
by Georges Simenon
Published by Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, 1982
Maigret is called in at night to a wealthy man's apartment — Felix Nahour, a professional gambler shot dead, his wife disappeared, an Algerian bodyguard with a minor wound and a story that doesn't quite hold. The case moves between Paris and Amsterdam, through the world of high-stakes gambling and international money, with the characteristic Simenon atmosphere of rain-soaked streets and rooms that feel just slightly too warm.
Originally published in French in 1967 as Maigret et l'affaire Nahour, this is the first American edition published by Harcourt Brace Jovanovich in 1982 — one of the later Maigrets, written when Simenon had complete command of his formula. Dust jacket shows wear; library sticker on spine. A good reading copy.
A unique find, and we only have one.
