The Wisdom of Mark Twain
by Mark Twain
Published by Stanyan Books / Random House, 1970
A Stanyan/Random House anthology of Twain's most barbed and durable observations, selected by Michael Joseph and designed by Hy Fujita — the graphic designer behind some of the most distinctive small-format books of the early 1970s. The cover is a sustained yellow with Twain's observation printed in red; the boards underneath are red with a repeating architectural motif in a darker tone and a purple title banner. The interior runs Twain's aphorisms alongside period woodcut illustrations printed on golden stock — an unusual production choice that gives the book a warmth the sentiments don't always earn.
This is the sixth printing, copyright 1970 by Montcalm Productions, Inc. Published jointly by Stanyan Books and Random House. A well-made gift book that holds up as an object.
Good condition. Dust jacket shows some wear at corners and spine; boards clean. Pages bright.
